I designed and launched my online blog in 2014 to help female entrepreneurs navigate the technical side of blogging and design. In the fall of 2017, I rebranded from a strictly technical, tutorial-style blog to a wider niche that includes lifestyle content.
.
I wanted the new brand to be a better reflection of who I am as a person. The old colors were very bright, and the fonts were loud and in your face. However, if you look around my house and in my wardrobe, I gravitate toward muted colors and neutrals. There was a disconnect between me as a person and my brand, and I wanted to close that gap.
.
I also wanted my audience to be comfortable when they came to my site. I wanted to have easy-to-understand and easy-to-read graphics, and I wanted the whole experience to be calming. The content I write about (tech tutorials, mostly) can be quite stressful, so bright colors can aggravate that. I don’t want my audience to be even more stressed than they already are, so muted colors were the way to go.
.
The colors are much lighter and calmer, and the script font is cleaner than before. However, the dinosaur and logo setup are the exact same, which makes a connection to my previous brand and helps people who were familiar with the old brand make the connection to the new one.
